Growth Mindset

I had never heard of the Growth Mindset before today. I think it is a very interesting concept to take into consideration. I think especially on a college campus, grades are seen as more important that actually learning or making sure students comprehend the material. I really like the idea of "not yet" grades. Instead of feeling like a failure, students can see their education as a continuing process. I am really going to try and apply this mindset to my classes this semester. I am really nervous about my capstone and making sure I know what is going on and when everything is due. I want to apply this to this class so I can make sure I am learning and not just trying to cross things off a to-do list.

  1. Hi Averey! I like the meme that you posted with this blog post! Until this class, I had never heard of the growth mindset either. But I completely agree with you on the aspect of grades. I get that they are a way to measure how one has learned something, but at the same time it isn't always indicative as to how much material you actually retain (if that makes any sense). But I hope that at this point in the semester for you that this mindset has actually worked out in how you view your grades and knowledge! :)

  2. Hey you are going to do great on your capstone! Your picture says it all above. Keep trying again even if it means waiting until tomorrow. I'm speaking to myself as much here. Keep putting things in perspective. Always ask these questions: "Will everything really be ok in this situation and am I over reacting?" "What truly defines you at the end of the day?"

  3. Hi Averey. I agree that the idea of "not yet" grades sounds appealing. It helps reduce the stress of having to make really good grades. Failing a class can really bring someone's hopes and motivations down to the point where they don't even want to try anymore and "not yet" sounds much better than a D or an F. I hope you are doing well on your capstone so far and are on your way towards graduation. You got this!
